You might not know this, or maybe you have, but I am an avid fan of thrifting! There is just something about it maybe the little hidden gems you find here; or the fact that with forty dollars you can come out with so many new pieces of clothing that others do not have. I also really appreciate that the money used often are donated partially or in full to help out others in need. I know many find the idea of thrifting grungy and nasty. I'm not one go prove a point to change anyone's idea, but if you ever decide to hit a local thrift store who knows what you'll be able to find? These two photos are my last thrifting adventures (in that case I won't be talking about them in detail)!
Thrifting tips:
1. Always come with hours on hand.
- Truthfully you won't be able to score any real gems if you don't have the time to look through every corner of the racks! If you come with little time, you'll leave with only a few items (or none at all).
2. Every area counts
- Many people actually decide to randomly place items anywhere after they decided they no longer want the article of clothing (trust me it won't be surprising to find a dress in a men's area).
- Also do check the racks where people placed clothing they no longer want after they've tried it on! Most of these items are in great condition!
3. Easy do-it-yourselves
- If you ever find a t-shirt or anything that you can easily recreate or fix at a good price go for it! I'm constantly making my own high waisted shorts & taking graphic tees and cutting them up into crop tops!
4. Germ-a-phobic?
- Bring gloves! Some of the racks can get a little... (you get the idea). If you bring disposable gloves it's no problem to slip them right off! p.s: if you are going to thrift and you know you try on clothing make sure you
don't shower right before you go thrifting (it makes no sense to shower again once you come home)!
5.Consignment thrift stores and Vintage Boutiques are more expensive than your local Goodwill and
Salvation Army. [My Salvation Army always has the best deals]
6. Thrift Store Specials
- Believe it or not as affordable the clothing at thrift stores already are, many actually have extra specials discounts. Call or visit your local thrift store and see what they have to offer.
Goodwill often have half off their specific color tags for a week.
Salvation Army has special discounts for certain days of the week and half off on a certain day of the month.
Both have senior discounts (if your grandma and grandpa wants to join in the "party") on a certain day!
7. There's always next time!
- If you don't find anything on your recent thrifting trip don't give hope. You can always come back and for the deals that thrift stores has to offer its literally too good to pass up.
you are so lucky to have come across those items at your thrift stores! my thrift stores open at odd hours and odd places. i normally go to flea markets instead.
